 Beginner level

You understand some basic words and expressions, but do not have any significant command of the foreign language.

 Elementary level

At this level, you understand simple phrases, instructions and descriptions relating to everyday life, but are only able to use isolated words or expressions, in incomplete sentences without any real grammatical content.

 Upper elementary level

You have mastered some basic sentence types in both oral and written forms, but have difficulty understanding everyday language. You are able to interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.

 Lower intermediate level

You understand the language with some difficulty, except in certain familiar situations, and can read simple texts. Despite making frequent mistakes, you are able to communicate in a limited range of situations.

 Intermediate level

You often repeat phrases in order to be understood and have not yet mastered specific expressions. Some mistakes are made in grammar, emphasis and vocabulary. Good general understanding.

 Upper intermediate level

You understand most everyday language. Despite certain faults in grammar and expression, you are able to express general ideas with some nuances. Language level is sufficient for use in the professional world.

 Advanced level

You have mastered the structure of the foreign language, in both spoken and written forms. You can express yourself with confidence in different situations and understand the language when spoken by native speakers. You are still recognizable by your cautious use of the language, by expressions learned by heart or by the absence of idiomatic expressions.

 Very advanced level

You understand almost everything, including idiomatic expressions. Despite occasional mistakes you are close to native speaker level, even in complex situations.

 Level close to native speakers

You speak the language fluently and accurately. Your command of the language may be superior to certain native speakers, perhaps with fewer idiomatic expressions.
